The Minnesota Gopher mens hockey team lost Friday in the first round of the 2013 division 1 college hockey championship tournament to Yale.
Well, there goes my bracket. I thought the Gopher hockey men had it in them to go all the way, and eventually beat Boston College who I also planned to see in the championship game. But they did make a good come back at least in the last 12 minutes of the game. Scoring their two goals in the third period to tie the game, the immediately crumbled in OT. After only 9 seconds, the #15 seed Yale scored the final goal to give them the win.
But with an overall #2 seed, you can’t say the Gophs didn’t have a good season. (Nothing close to women’s hockey with a perfect season and championship title though!) The had either the number 1 or 2 overall rank for all but six weeks of the season.
But it seems the gopher hockey men just weren’t quite over the shut-out loss during the Frozen Five to Colorado College in the WCHA tournament last Friday. It’s just a shame they had to end their 2013 season on, not one, but two bad notes.
